From Chenonceau To Rambouillet
The Loire Valley is the
"land of a thousand chateaus" and the chateau in Chenonceau
is probably one of the most elegant. We avoided rain in the morning
by touring the castle, drove north to visit the cathedral at Chartres,
and then settled in Rambouillet, which is just 45 minutes
away from Paris.

Chenonceau
This
Renaissance-era castle was a royal vacation house beside the Cher river. A
"woman's touch" is evident in its design and decorations; it was
under the charge of six women, including Diane de Poitiers, King Henri II's
mistress. Upon the King's death, his wife, Catherine De Medici, reclaimed
the castle. The town itself is very quaint and serene.

Chartres
Chartres is
famous for its magnificent Notre Dame cathedral, an exemplary work in
Transitional Gothic style.
Rambouillet
This small
town just 45 minutes south of Paris has an interesting chateau, which is
the summer residence of the French president.
