Rocamadour

Continuing further southwest from Clermont Ferrand and Puy De Dome, we stopped briefly at St. Angels to visit its abbey. Then we settled at Rocamadour in the Dordogne region. This tiny village hangs on the cliffside of a beautiful valley.

St. Angels

This is a quiet, tiny town with an ancient abbey on a hill, just  along the drive from Puy De Dome towards Rocamadour.

Rocamadour

This tiny village hangs on the cliffside of a beautiful gorge. At the top of the cliff is a medieval castle.

The village was once the abode of Saint Amadour, a hermit. It  was one of the most popular pilgrimage sites for the earkly Christians; accordingly, it was viewed as a source of miraculous cures.

The visitors arrived just in time to witness a hot air balloon festival
while sipping beer and cappucino at the  cafe of the Hotel St. Marie.

The cliff is lined with shops and restaurants.

The most unique hot air balloon in the festival is the "Orient Express".

The entrance to the town is a very narrow passageway that could barely fit a small car.

A cross stands high atop the stone cliffs opposite the castle.

A tiny house of stone in the village.

Ramon and Kris hide their fear of falling of the ledge.

The stone entrance way to the plaza in front of the chapel.

At dusk and at night time, the village remains beautiful.
